Product Details
An absolutely charming, and very substantial, 18th century elm cheese press board, later converted to a table. A naively carved face sits to the front centre of the board with the whey drain still visible to its top, which would have allowed the whey to drip down between the eyes.
The board has an exceptional patina throughout and is extremely tactile. The whole is raised upon a reclaimed wooden base, the colour and patina of which is strikingly similar to the board itself thus it is probable that the whole was constructed from the one dismantled cheese press. The board can be removed from the base, which reveals two small modern dowels used to secure the board in place.
There is some wear commensurate with age as is to be expected in a piece such as this, with historic worm evident to the base. Please note that these areas have been fully treated and hardened in abundance of caution.
An extremely attractive and highly unusual piece that would be excellent for use as a standing cheese board or side table.
