Product Details
An exceptional late 18th century Swedish bentwood pine and iron strong box and stand, complete with original key and working lock.
The box has iron strapwork and a decorative iron escutcheon to the body, with ornate ironwork and an iron handle to the lid. The lid opens at the twist of the key to reveal a neat pine interior with original iron lock and hinges. The box sits upon a stand which retains traces of the original paintwork to the top and base with four turned legs, all upon four ball feet.
The box simply lifts from the stand for ease of transport. There are two historic nicks to the base by the iron strapwork of the box, presumably where the box has been clumsily placed back in situ.
The box has a truly stunning patina throughout and generally remains in a very good condition, with the lock and hinges operating with ease.
A scarce, attractive and very functional piece.
