Product Details

A charming late 19th century naive oil on board of large proportions after Sir John Everett Millais' famous painting 'Bubbles' (painted 1886); a painting that became famous after being used for many years in advertisements for Pears Soap.

The Winsor & Newton label verso was in circulation in the 1890s; the label itself has a hand-written date of '1892'. The work has some craquelure in areas and a few flakes of paint loss to the log upon which the bot is seated (please see photographs). The work is housed in a period gilt frame which has some losses to the mount but otherwise remains attractive.

A quirky depiction of a well-known work - a definite talking piece.
