Product Details

A Charles II 17th century carved oak coffer, c.1680.

The coffer has a moulded three panel front, profusely carved with foliate detail and lozenges with quadrant lunettes, all below a lunette frieze. The coffer retains its original two plank top with later hinge, but one original iron loop hinge remaining present. There are signs of wear commensurate with age as expected in a piece of this age, namely repairs to the lid (visible when open), minor repairs and evidence of historic woodworm to the rear panels and a historic repair to the rear right stile leg.

The whole piece has a great colour and the top is full of character with knots and light warps. The front carvings remain clear and crisp.

A lovely example.
