Product Details

A set of four oil paintings after Martin Feuerstein's (1856-1931) 'Stations Of The Cross'. The canvases are stamped for the artist supplier John Bryce Smith of 177 Hampstead Road, London NW1; three of the stamps date to known works dating c.1906 (George Sheridan Knowles, Charity, 1906 (Christie’s, 13 February 1976, lot 20), and one differing stamp dates to a known work c.1920 (C.R.W. Nevinson, Soho, Twilight, c.1920 (Private coll.)).

The collection includes:

  • Jesus Falls The First Time - 3rd Station Of The Cross;
  • Jesus Falls The Third Time - 9th Station Of The Cross;
  • Jesus Is Disrobed - 10th Station Of The Cross; and
  • Jesus Is Nailed To The Cross - 11th Station Of The Cross.

Each work is well executed with a gilt halo carefully depicted within each. There is some craquelure to each work and an area of paint loss to 'Jesus Falls The Third Time', but generally the set is very attractive.

A striking collection.
