Product Details

A very fine George II Chippendale period mahogany ball & claw card table, c.1750.

The rectangular lobed top opens on brass hinges to reveal a baize beneath. The hinged right rear leg supports the top and reveals a hidden drawer when opened. The frieze boasts an attractive inlay and original brassware, all above four fine legs, each topped with finely carved brackets depicting a spiral motif and terminating in intricately carved ball & claw feet.

There are signs of wear commensurate with age, namely a sympathetic historic replacement to the front portion of the front left leg bracket, and a recent replacement to a portion of the the rear right bracket. There has also been a historic repair to the left side hinge and there is a small area of residual glue evident on the baize subsequent.

A stunning piece of exceptional colour and form.

PROVENANCE: 18th century manor house, Co. Carlow, Ireland.
