FORGING A BLACKSMITHS KNIFE
Traditional blacksmiths knives are some of the simplest tools that have been made by smiths for hundreds of years. They are a single piece of high carbon steel that do not have to have a wooden handle fitted. This is the perfect place to start for anyone interested in knife making or blacksmithing in general.
Over the course of the day (9am - 6pm) students will learn how to forge a variety of blades using different carbon steels.
- Forging high carbon steels (EN9 and EN42J) to make foraging and small skinning knives.
- All pieces will then be fully heat treated and ground to a sharpened edge.
Please note - We do not fit wooden handles on this course. A leather sheath will be provided at the end of the day.
MEALS - A simple lunch will be provided , as well as tea and coffee throughout the day.
CAMPING AND ACCOMMODATION - There is camping at COPPET HILL CAMPING (walking distance from the forge) or else plenty of local accommodation available .
