Product Details
A rare 18th century Reeves & Inwood Watercolour Paint Box, complete with original paints, water glass, labels and working lock and key. The address on the label of '299 near the New Church Strand London' accurately dates this piece between 1784-1790 (the dates between which Reeves & Inwood operated from this address).
This is an extremely scarce example with the whole paint box remaining in the condition in which its original painter left it, complete with various later accessories.
The water glass is handblown with a cut star design to the bottom. Water glasses of this form and design have been seen in other Reeves & Inwood paint boxes of the period thus it is presumed to be original to the box.
There are two minor losses to the box stringing on the left side and back (please see photographs), otherwise the paint box remains in an excellent condition throughout with the original lock and key operating with ease.
A superb example.
