An 18th century oil on panel depicting a money lender. 

The work has a great patina with the darkened varnish making it appear that the robed money lender is looming out of the darkness. The oval panel is housed in a gilt wood frame. The frame has wear commensurate with age with various knocks to the wood in places and historic gilt overpainting. 

A simply great looking work.
