A smart set of ‘Galilean’, hand held binoculars in polished brass with textured leather covering, by Lemaire of Paris, circa 1900. This rare design of binocular has an adjustment wheel at the side to change the focus range for the binoculars. Close range, 'Theatre', mid range, 'Field' and long range, 'Marine'.
With 1⅝ inch/42.5 mm diameter objective lenses, a central focus adjustment wheel and fitted with sliding shades that pull forward, to help combat glare. These binoculars use a Galilean optical design that incorporates convex objective lenses and concave eyepiece lenses.
Dimensions: 12 cm/4¾ inches (width) x 5.5 cm/2⅛ inches (depth) x 13.75 cm/5⅜ inches (min. length).
